Lesson: Vocabulary Development |
|
A good lesson can be built around a prefix or a root of a word. For example: The teacher explains and writes on the board that "vid" and "vis" are from the Latin and mean to see. Then the teacher can draw "vid" and "vis" words from the class, third grade through adult. Members of the class become very involved and shout out the words that they know. Together the teacher and the class write the words in syllables: the teacher on the board, the students on their papers. Teacher: What has to do with sight? vi su al Teacher: What is the power of seeing? vi sion Teacher: What is the seeing part of television? vi de o Teacher: What is that which can be seen? vi si ble Teacher: What is the distance at which things can be seen? vi si bi li ty Teacher: What do you do when you form a mental picture of something? vi su al ize Teacher: What is something that cannot be seen? in vi si ble Teacher: What sends pictures at a distance? tel e vi sion
