HOW CAN I HELP MY CHILD READ?
Community centers, parents' groups, libraries take note:
Reading Reform Foundation offers parents short workshops on the effective teaching of reading, writing and spelling.
The workshops will include information on the structure of the language, how to put sounds into words and how to write sentences. They will also explain the importance of accurate spelling and good handwriting. This training could help strengthen parents' own skills as they are trying to help their children.
These workshops could range from an introductory one and a half hour lecture to a series of weekly or twice-a-month meetings. The meetings could be scheduled as requested by the sponsoring organization and the parents.
